In an attempt to derail a bipartisan border agreement in the Senate, former President Trump is allegedly “playing politics,” according to Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley on Sunday.

On Sunday’s “State of the Union,” CNN’s Dana Bash pressed Haley on whether Trump is attempting to exploit the border agreement to strengthen his own presidential campaign. Senators have been negotiating a bipartisan border agreement since late last year, but Trump has been vehemently opposing it, claiming that legislation is not necessary to address the problems at the border.

“Well, in my opinion, no one ought to use the border for political purposes. We don’t want this to help [President] Biden win, so he shouldn’t be getting involved in the first place and advising Republicans to hold off until the election, Haley shot back. “One more day won’t do. Millions of individuals cross the border without any form of background checks.

“America is behaving as if September 10th is today.” It just takes one, therefore we had best hold onto the memories of September 12. Politics should not be played at this time, Haley said.

Then, Bash questioned Haley once more about if Trump is “playing politics” with the border agreement. Trump has denied attempting to obstruct Biden from winning the border dispute, stating that he would back bipartisan legislation if it addressed the “problem” and was a “great border bill.”

He is, of course. By urging them not to do anything, he is clearly engaging in political posturing. However, I do believe that they must implement strict immigration laws,” Haley retorted.

Along with other more stringent border controls, Haley stated that the law need to incorporate the “Remain in Mexico” immigration policy that Trump implemented in 2019.

Therefore, in order to prevent people from entering the country for nefarious purposes, the asylum rules need to be strengthened. We’re only going to be able to regulate this in that way, Haley added.
