U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday, February 27, that the proposed 25% tariffs on Mexican and Canadian goods will go into effect on March 4 as planned because drugs are being trafficked from those countries into the United States. Additionally, he stated that China will face an additional 10% tariff on the same date, on top of the 10% tariff already imposed on February 4.
Trump announced the new directive on his Truth Social media site, saying: “We cannot allow this scourge to continue to harm the USA, and therefore, until it stops, or is seriously limited, the proposed TARIFFS scheduled to go into effect on MARCH FOURTH will, indeed, go into effect, as scheduled.
“China will likewise be charged an additional 10% Tariff on that date.”
Trump added in his post, “The April Second Reciprocal Tariff date will remain in full force and effect.”
