In Smith’s election interference case, Trump entered a not guilty plea to all charges. The 2024 GOP front-runner is expected to appear in person on Tuesday at an appeals court hearing in Washington, D.C., where the case will be discussed in relation to the extent of his presidential immunity.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social account, “I will be attending the Federal Appeals Court Arguments on Presidential Immunity in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.”
“Of course I was entitled, as President of the United States and Commander in Chief, to Immunity,” Trump stated. “I had already finished the election, so I wasn’t campaigning.
In addition to governing our country, I was searching for and exposing voter fraud, as is my duty.”
According to Trump, “If I don’t get Immunity, then Crooked Joe Biden doesn’t get Immunity, and with the Border Invasion and Afghanistan Surrender, alone, not to mention the Millions of dollars that went into his ‘pockets’ with money from foreign countries, Joe would be ripe for Indictment.”
Biden was charged by Trump with “weaponizing the DOJ.”
“By weaponizing the DOJ against his Political Opponent, ME, Joe has opened a giant Pandora’s Box,” Trump stated.
Additionally, he said, “Just look around at the complete mess that Crooked Joe Biden has caused.” He was “protecting our country, and doing a great job of doing so” in his capacity as president.
He said, “The least I am entitled to is Presidential Immunity on Fake Biden Indictments!”
Smith’s lawsuit against Trump has been put on hold while Trump’s lawyers file an appeal, claiming that Trump is immune from prosecution because of his presidential status. March 4 was supposed to be the start of the trial.
Trump entered a not guilty plea in August to all four federal charges resulting from Smith’s investigation into the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, and election meddling in 2020.
Trump faces allegations of conspiring to defraud the United States, attempting to obstruct an official proceeding, blocking an official procedure, and violating someone’s rights.
Smith sent a response to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, challenging Trump’s assertion of presidential immunity.
In an attempt to expedite their review of the immunity claim before it was completely considered by a federal appeals court, Smith filed an appeal, but the U.S. Supreme Court recently denied it. Smith’s plea was denied by Trump’s legal team in a court request.
