Former President Trump called President Biden’s “no comment” reaction to the deadly wildfires in Hawaii “absolutely horrible and unacceptable.”
Trump talked about the deadly wildfires in Maui that killed dozens of people in a TruthSocial video on Monday.
Trump said, “I would like to send my condolences and warmest regards to the people of Hawaii, and especially to all of those who have been so severely and irreparably hurt by the tragedy of the wildfires in Maui, something that has rarely happened anywhere, at any time.”
“The number of deaths from this terrible event will be much higher than anyone thought, now that houses, cars, and other places are being checked,” Trump said. “The sad thing is that it should never have happened.”
Trump also criticized the Democratic governor of Hawaii, Josh Green, for how he handled the deadly fire. He did this before criticizing Biden’s “no comment” answer.
The former president said that “our government was not ready, and the aftermath is going very badly, with the governor of the islands wanting to do nothing but blame it on global warming and other random things that come to his mind.”
A Hawaii Democrat criticized President Biden’s response to reporters’ question about the deadly fires in his state as “shocking” and “quite disappointing.”
Bloomberg White House correspondent Justin Sink reported Sunday that Biden had nothing to say during his Delaware beach getaway on the rising death toll due to severe wildfires, which reached 96 as of Monday afternoon with hundreds more missing.
“After a couple hours on the Rehoboth beach, @potus was asked about the rising death toll in Hawaii ‘No comment,’ he said before heading home,” Sink reported on X, formerly known as Twitter.
