Career
Lee’s band, Suite 19, frequently performed on the Sunset Strip club circuit in Los Angeles in the late 1970s, among other burgeoning acts like Van Halen and Quiet Riot. He met bassist Nikki Sixx, whose band Sister and later London shared the same touring circuit. When Sixx talked Lee into leaving Studio 19, they laid the groundwork for Motley Crüe. Mick Mars, a guitarist, joined the group shortly after. The group was looking for a charismatic frontman, so Lee introduced singer Vince Neil, whom he had only briefly known in high school. Neil soon joined the group, and Mötley Crüe was born. Fast gaining a sizable following, Mötley Crüe released its self-owned independent debut album, Too Fast for Love, in 1981. Shortly after, Elektra Records decided to sign the group and reissue its 1982 debut. After that, the group started releasing a string of successful singles throughout the decade, including Shout at the Devil in 1983, Theatre of Pain in 1985, Girls, Girls, Girls in 1987, and Dr. Feelgood in 1989, which helped the group become one of the most popular hard rock/metal bands of the 1980s.
During his concert drum solos, Lee used several amazing tricks, like making his whole set spin and turn or floating over the crowd as he played. The band was known for misbehaving both on and off stage. They often drank alcohol and used cocaine, heroin, and pills. Red, White, & Crüe, a double-disc anthology record that Lee collaborated on with the original Mötley Crüe lineup, was released in 2004. It went quadruple-platinum and catalyzed the band’s first tour in six years, the Red, White & Crüe Tour 2005: Better Live Than Dead.” On the Top Concert Money Earners list, Mötley Crüe placed eighth at the year’s end. Billboard Boxscore reports that it played 81 gigs and made US$33 million.
In 2004, Lee was the star of “Tommy Lee Goes to College,” a reality show on NBC. Lee was also involved in making the show. In the spring of 2008, Lee started filming Battleground Earth for Planet Green with rapper Ludacris. In 2019, Lee starred as Professor Lee on Season 7, Episode 14 of The Goldbergs. In October 2020, Lee played the Devil in four episodes of the made-up musical horror podcast Halloween in Hell. Iann Dior, 24k Gold, Dana Dentata, Phem, and Machine Gun Kelly were also in the show.
Personal Life

Lee later married Pamela Anderson on February 19, 1995, after meeting her for four days. They gave birth to Brandon and Dylan together. The couple got a divorce in 1998. In 1998, Lee spent six months in county jail after pleading guilty to kicking Pamela Anderson while she was holding their son Dylan. Lee allegedly beat his wife because Anderson wouldn’t call her parents to tell them not to come to the family’s house. After Lee got out of jail in 2001, he and Anderson saw each other briefly. Lee and Anderson got back together at one point in 2008 and even moved in with their sons, but they broke up for good not long after that.
