William Golding was a renowned British novelist, playwright, and poet. He is best known for his debut novel, Lord of the Flies, published in 1954. He was born to Alec Golding and Mildred Curnoe on September 19, 1911, in Newquay, Cornwall, United Kingdom.
William studied at Oxford University. He initially read Natural Science but switched to English. After graduating in 1934, he published his first poem. Golding taught English at Michael Hall School in 1935 and later taught music at Maidstone Grammar School in 1938
