On June 14, 1919, Henry Witten-Brown, the navigator, and John Alcock, the pilot, embarked on the first non-stop transatlantic flight. They flew a modified Vickers Vimy bomber from St. John’s, Newfoundland, to Clifden, Ireland. The flight took approximately 16 hours and 27 minutes and covered about 1,890 miles. Their successful landing marked a significant milestone in aviation history, proving the feasibility of long-distance air travel.

Haile Selassie embarked on modernization efforts to bring Ethiopia into the 20th century. In 1931, he introduced Ethiopia’s first written constitution, which aimed to centralize and stabilize the government.
