Oppenheimer displayed exceptional intelligence and curiosity from a young age, excelling in mathematics and science. He attended Harvard University, where he studied chemistry. 

After completing his doctoral studies at the University of Göttingen in Germany, Oppenheimer returned to the United States and began his academic career. He held teaching positions at various universities, including the University of California, Berkeley, and became a full professor in 1936.

In 1942, Oppenheimer’s career took a dramatic turn. He joined the Manhattan Project, a top-secret U.S. government program with a monumental task —developing the atomic bomb during the Second World War. His leadership and expertise were instrumental, and he eventually became the director of the project’s Los Alamos Laboratory in New Mexico. 

Oppenheimer continued his academic work in the post-war years, serving as the Institute for Advanced Study director in Princeton, New Jersey. He made significant contributions to theoretical physics, particularly in nuclear physics, such as work on the theory of electrons and positrons, the Born–Oppenheimer approximation for molecular wave functions, the Oppenheimer–Phillips process in nuclear fusion, and early work on quantum tunneling and quantum mechanics.

He was married to Katherine “Kitty” Puening and had two children. Robert passed away on February 18, 1967, at the age of 62, but his contribution to mathematics and science will forever be remembered.

Yehudi Menuhin married twice. First, he married Nola Nicholas, but they divorced in 1947. Then, he married actress Diana Gould for the second time. Yehudi had three children.
