Vane made his significant breakthrough research on the actions of aspirin and angiotensin-converting enzymes, which resulted in the publication with Priscilla Piper on the role of prostaglandins in the body’s physiological processes, revolutionizing our understanding of inflammation and pain management. He was awarded in 1982 a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
John became the Director of Research at the Wellcome Foundation in 1973 after leaving the Royal College of Surgeons in 1966.
