So you just purchased this beautiful condo in  Life One Wireless, and you can’t wait to start decorating it. You have one problem though: you’re used to decorating a full home, and you don’t know how to decorate such a small space.

Take a photo of the space.Put your mood board together.Find pieces that serve style and purpose.Get your colours right.

You’re not alone in this problem because a lot of people have a hard time transitioning into condo or apartment living when they’re used to living in a house. But you don’t have to worry because these five tips will help you make every square inch count:

Take a photo of the space.

Before you get giddy about designing a space, make sure that you have a clear view of what the bare unit looks like. Condos are designed to maximise every inch of space for functionality, so it’s very important to get a good grasp of the layout to see how you can make things work with the space that you have to work with. This is also a good time to get some measurements done, so you don’t need to return things just because they don’t fit or are too big for your space.

Put your mood board together.

Now that you have an idea of your space, it’s time to get creative with your mood board. Find a colour palette, design, and elements that you think would best fit your kind of aesthetic and put them together in a mood board, which will serve as your guide as you start decorating your condo. This will also keep you from buying things that don’t match your aesthetic or those that you won’t use.

Find pieces that serve style and purpose.

The trick to decorating a condo successfully is to find pieces that don’t just serve as decoration but also storage. For instance, instead of just buying a couch, find one with storage underneath where you can keep blankets, bedsheets and pillows. You can also look for one that converts into a bed, so you’ll have something for guests to sleep in. The good thing about decorating a small space today is that you already have a lot of options when it comes to furniture and decor that serve a purpose.

Get your colours right.

If you don’t have a huge budget to work with, paint is the best way to go because it’s cheap but can do a lot to set the mood for your space. But it’s also very important to be smart when choosing colours since dark and strong colour palettes can make your condo look small and cramped. Go for neutrals instead and if you love a pop of colour, do it on accessories and artwork to hang on your walls.

And when you’re done decorating, don’t forget to  keep your space clean and organised to make sure that you maintain the homey vibe throughout the year. Keep in mind that simple habits done consistently can really make a huge difference to your home.
