At one point, you have probably used the phrase “rich people’s problems”. We all have. Often, we say the phrase when we cannot relate to some of the things rich people complain about.
From not having enough designer clothes to being forced to fly commercial, some of these oddities are quaint compared to what rich folks build into their massive homes.
In this list, we are looking at some of the most surprising things rich people have built into their homes, which may be more common among upper-crust members than you think.
- Luxury home theatres
If you are a big fan of movies, you enjoy going to the cinema and catching up on the latest shows.
Movie directors and actors insist that having a home theater at home is a necessity and not a luxury, but the best we can do is get a decent TV with great picture quality. The wealthy just get a theater.
These often celebrity-owned private theaters cost up to a million dollars to set up and feature an elaborate sound system, enormous screens, and equally luxurious furniture with just as many features.
Some even have access to movies on the day they premiere and can host watch parties right at home before we can even go see them.
- Recording studios
It is natural to assume that recording studios are solely meant for artists and music labels. However, wealthy clients in the field or just enjoying music-making as a hobby build full-on studios with the latest equipment.
It is common to find entire floors dedicated to a home studio. Some of these studios are set up as a way to enjoy a hobby, while others might be more in line with the wealthy person’s musical interests.
Whatever the reason, don’t be surprised if you walk around a mansion and stumble onto a complete recording studio.
- Casinos
The rich take game nights to a whole different level. While the rest of us had to resort to online casinos during the pandemic, the rich brought the experience into their homes.
The best part about having a casino in your home is the privacy you are afforded. Guests can let loose and enjoy a night of competition without worrying about anything. Do you know what else goes well with a casino? That’s right, drinks!
- Fancy bars
Club hopping is fun in your twenties, but you get tired of it at a certain age. Having the option of enjoying a drink in your private bar is quite appealing. Hosting parties becomes entertaining because you only need a group of intimate friends to make it a night of drinking and revelry.
Plus, there can never be a time when the drinks you want aren’t available or run out. The owners stock the shelves with their favorite beverages and often learn to mix some drinks to make the home bar experience more fun.
So, what do you get when you have a fancy bar, in a soundproof room, with the best speakers, a DJ table, a dance floor, and karaoke rooms? Right again! A nightclub!
- Nightclubs
Nightclubs are big, loud, intended to be packed to the gills, and conform to municipal noise control ordinances (that’s noisemaking laws to you). Going out of your way to finding a great club with everything you want and the added benefit of falling asleep anywhere without worrying that you’ll get robbed or assaulted is a chore.
That’s why the rich make their nightclubs in their homes and invite like-moneyed individuals and their entourages to party. You can bet your bottom dollar that these nightclubs are much nicer than anything you can access publicly.
- Panic rooms
The rich, just like you, worry about their safety. As a precaution, the wealthy have panic rooms at home. A panic room is designed to be a safe hideout where one can stay for an extended time until help arrives.
Most panic rooms have reinforced doors and walls to protect the occupants. A telephone line is also installed so the occupant can call for help.
Some of the useful but very high-tech things installed in a panic room include bulletproof walls, bomb shelters, oxygen tanks, a wine cellar, a pet kennel, and just about anything you might need if you are hunkering down for a few days to avoid the roaming bands of underpaid workers outside.
Honorable mentions
If you can imagine it and pay for it with unimaginable amounts of money, someone out there will put it in your house. Some of the crazy installations we could not dive into include:
- An actual gas station (No joke!)
- Indoor pools and slides
- A bowling alley
- A gun range
- An auditorium
- Mudrooms/steam rooms
- Libraries
- Wine cellars
- Mini golf courses
- Aquariums (big ones!)
