Russia’s senior diplomat in Poland stated on Saturday that until it obtains proof that the item was a Russian missile, it would not offer any answers on an unexplained object that momentarily penetrated Poland’s airspace.
An unidentified object entered Poland’s airspace on Friday, traveling 40 kilometers (24 miles) from the direction of Ukraine, according to the country’s military forces. Minutes later, the item disappeared from radars. According to General Wiesław Kukuła, the commander of Poland’s armed forces, “everything indicates” that it was a Russian missile.
Moscow was asked to provide an explanation by Poland’s Foreign Ministry. Poland’s assertions, according to Andrei Ordash, Russia’s charge d’affaires in Warsaw, are “unsubstantiated,” he told Russian official news agency RIA Novosti on Saturday.
Ordash told RIA Novosti, “We will not provide any explanations until we are presented with concrete evidence, as these accusations are unsubstantiated.”
500 Polish forces from the Territorial Defense were searching an area between Zamosc and the Ukrainian border for signs of the item.
The borders of the European Union and NATO also run across Poland and Ukraine.
