Sumo wrestling is a popular sport where heavy weights get to fight inside a circle and trample one over the other. The rich culture of Japanese sumo wrestling is also a huge factor into its fame.
Believe it or not, there are a lot of great sumo wrestlers in the history of the sport, and one of them is no other than Baruto Kaito. Born and raised in Estonia, a country in Northern Europe, Baruto Kaito pursued professional sumo wrestling and gained impressive accolades during his active years competing. Following his retirement in 2013, Baruto explored various industries outside the sport, including a partnership with a known crypto casino.
Now that online crypto betting site Bitcasino-io and Baruto have teamed up, there’s a lot of potential for the sumo wrestling sport to get more popular. Here is everything you need to know about Baruto Kaito:
Aspiring Baruto during his youth
Baruto Kaito grew up wanting to participate in any combat sport. As a young aspirant, he joined the judo team and won the Estonian national championship. During his mid to late teens, Baruto started sumo wrestling and became a qualified professional after scouts saw his potential.
Even with his great potential, Mihogaseki was the only stable of sumo wrestlers that could accommodate Baruto. In May 2004, he became a professional sumo wrestler and started his debut fights.
He had a record of 41-8 on the road to the juryo division which he dominated during his early professional stint.
Top division sumo tournaments
During his latter divisional tournaments, he had a record of 11-4 which helped him earn a place in the kanto-sho. This is also known as the Fighting Spirit Prize during his first top division tournament.
However, his quick rise to the rankings halted at the maegashira 1 after his second winning record in July and another promotion thereafter. Maegashira 6 is now his current ranking after withdrawing from the September 2021 tournament due to a ligament injury.
Before all this, he was promoted to Maegashira 3 with a 10-5 win in December 2006 but was quickly sidelined for the rest of the year because of another torn injury. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of his left knee ruptured which to some athletes is a career ending injury.
The Maegashira division is the lowest of the five ranks of sumo wrestling. There are also tiers in this division that divides the talent pool evenly to have the fairest matches.
For his 14-1 record in May, he was named the juryo champion of the year and came back to the makuuchi division in July 2021 to become Number 14 maegashira east. However, he was forced to withdraw from the tournament after his knee injury during just the first day.
He returned to great shape again and is still known as one of the greatest sumo wrestlers of all time.
