Georgia officials say how long the Capitol security gates will be closed will depend on how long and how intense the protests are.
On Monday, Georgia officials said that the security gates around the state’s Capitol will be closed starting on Tuesday. This is because they expected protests after former President Trump and others were indicted.
“Because high-profile indictments are expected later this week, there may be protests,” the announcement said, “the Georgia Building Authority will close the security gates around the Capitol for an undetermined amount of time.” “How long the gates will be closed will depend on how long and how loud any protests are.”
The statement also said that the gates would close sometime during work hours on Tuesday and that the closing could last for several days.
Last week, security was stepped up in front of the Fulton County courthouse in Georgia by blocking off the street in front of the building.
Reports say there were several police agencies and a bomb-sniffing dog for media cars in front of the building.
Last week’s closings were supposed to last until August 18.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is looking into Trump’s attempts to change the results of Georgia’s 2020 election. She said she would make an announcement this month.
In May, the DA told local judges and law officers that she planned to bring her case to a grand jury in the first half of August.
If the grand jury decides to arrest Trump, it will be the fourth time he has been charged, and the second time it has to do with the 2020 election.
The former president is being charged with paying a Porn star to keep quiet, mishandling secret papers, and trying to change the results of the 2020 election in Washington, D.C.
