In the year 2021, 73 police officers were shot and murdered in the line of duty.
In a statement released Sunday, FBI Director Christopher Wray expressed concern about the rising number of homicides against police officers, noting that the increase outpaces that of other forms of violent crime.
Wray projected in a 60-minute interview on Sunday that the number of police officers murdered will increase by 59 percent by 2021. Terrorist attacks against police officers in the United States would claim the lives of 61 officers in 2021, a 29 percent rise from the previous year.
