After an investigation revealed that staff at an animal shelter in Sugar Land, Texas, had slaughtered scores of animals in an unethical manner, those employees were terminated last week.
Following an investigation into allegations that Sugar Land’s Animal Services shelter unlawfully put to death at least 38 canines and felines, the City of Sugar Land issued a statement on Friday announcing the terminations of the affected employees.
According to the city’s statement, five workers had their jobs cut short as soon as the “inappropriate behaviors” came to light. The manager of the shelter chose to resign from his position rather than face the possibility of being fired.
According to reports, the terminated employees claimed that the animals that were put down “had a medical condition” or were acting in a violent manner.
