The Texas A&M University Police Department is investigating a fatality on campus over the weekend.
School officials have identified Britney Romero, a freshman studying health, as the victim. According to the university’s police department, Romero died early Saturday morning in College Station, Texas, after falling from a third-floor balcony of Dunn Hall.
Texas A&M’s vice president for student affairs, Joe E. Ramirez Jr., released a statement expressing his condolences and confirming Romero’s death.
“Our hearts ache for Britney’s family and friends,” Ramirez continued. “They have our deepest sympathies and support as they navigate this devastating loss.”
The Justice of the Peace has ordered an autopsy, according to Ramirez, and the institution will “immediately conduct a thorough and comprehensive review of what happened.”
Ramirez refused to disclose any further information on the investigation when asked.
