At San Antonio International Airport, an airport worker died after being “ingested” by a Delta Air Lines airplane engine.
According to KENS5, emergency responders were called to the scene at about 10:25 p.m. Friday night.
The plane had just arrived from Los Angeles and had just one engine functioning when the victim was murdered, according to a statement from the National Transportation Safety Board.
“The NTSB has communicated with Delta.” “At this time, they are gathering information,” the agency stated.
Unifi Aviation, a company contracted by Delta and other airlines, hired the employee to support ground handling operations. The airline stated that it is fully cooperating with the inquiry into the event.
“Unifi Aviation is deeply saddened by the loss of our employee at San Antonio International Airport during a tragic incident in the late hours of Friday, June 23, 2023,” the business told KENS5. “Our hearts go out to the deceased’s family, and we remain focused on supporting our employees on the ground and ensuring they are taken care of during this difficult time.”
“Based on our preliminary investigation,” the statement said, “this incident was unrelated to Unifi’s operational processes, safety procedures, or policies.” “We will not share any additional information out of respect for the deceased.” We will defer to police and other agencies in releasing any details while they continue to examine this situation.”
In a statement, airport officials said they are “deeply saddened” by the occurrence and are cooperating with police in their investigation.
Following an investigation that determined the airline was at fault in the death of a Piedmont Airlines ground agent working at an Alabama airport on New Year’s Eve, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined Piedmont Airlines, an American Airlines subsidiary, more than $15,000.
