Police claim 16-year-old used toy gun that was retrieved at crime scene
A toy pistol-wielding youngster was shot in Philadelphia on Sunday night after reportedly attempting to rob a guy who was carrying a loaded gun.
According to FOX 29 in Philadelphia, police claimed that at around 11 p.m. on Sunday, the 16-year-old and another suspect approached a guy and his girlfriend in the 2200 block of Emerald Street.
One of the suspects reportedly forced a firearm against the man’s back before demanding his keys, wallet and other items.
The guy they were robbing had a legitimate handgun, which the suspects were unaware of, according to the police, and he opened fire on the two suspects, hitting the 16-year-old in the leg.
A toy gun that was found at the site during the first inquiry turned out to be the teen’s weapon.
Inspector DF Pace of the Philadelphia Police told the station, “There would have been no way for them to know that having been pressed into the victim’s back.”
Fox News Digital has inquired further about the situation from the Philadelphia Police Department.
The adolescent who was shot in the leg was transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment while under police custody, but the station stated that the victim was unharmed. Police are in hand for the second suspect.
