At least two LGBTQ women were beaten by a gang of males in Miami, according to footage acquired exclusively by NBC South Florida, in what authorities are investigating as a possible hate crime.
According to NBC South Florida, which acquired footage of the encounter from one of the victims this week, the event occurred on Nov. 26 in Miami’s Wynwood area, which is recognized globally for its art galleries and vivid street murals.
Multiple males are seen hitting the women and their male buddy, who allegedly tried to interfere. The victims can be heard begging their assailants to stop and stating that they have previously contacted the police.
“This group of guys just started screaming stuff at us, anti-lesbian comments like, ‘You’re only a girl!'”
homosexuals because you haven’t received actual,’ and he used a vulgarity term,” one of the victims told NBC South Florida in a video interview, requesting that her identity not be published out of fear of reprisal from her attackers.
According to the victim, she was hit in the face three times and may require surgery as a consequence.
One of the other victims, who also requested that her identity not be published for the same reason as her companion, said she was pummeled until she passed out.
“I definitely felt targeted for sure; I mean, they were definitely trying to hate on the fact that we were gay,” she explained in a video interview. “I don’t understand to this day why.”
According to a Miami Police Department official, the assault is being investigated as a suspected hate crime.
“We are actively investigating the case.” “As with any investigation, we must dot the I’s and cross the T’s,” stated the spokesman in a statement. “We’re collaborating with our LGBTQ+ liaison and the [State Attorney General’s Office] hate crime task force.”
In an email to NBC News, the official also verified that no arrests had been made.
“It’s very concerning to see that they are still out and about and free, and nothing has happened to them yet,” said the lady who said she had been beaten senseless.
