According to ESPN, Tottenham and RB Leipzig are negotiating for forward Timo Werner to return to the Premier League on a six-month loan.
The move could be finalized in the next few days, according to Sky Germany, which broke the initial news of the transfer. Werner will support Spurs’ attack until the end of the season.
Werner will add another flexible threat to Spurs’ attacking options, as he can play off the left and through the middle. Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou will be without star forward Son Heung-Min while he competes at the Asian Cup with South Korea.
Werner had two terrible seasons at Stamford Bridge, where he only scored 23 goals in 89 appearances, and he returned to RB Leipzig in August 2022 for a €20 million transfer from Chelsea.
Werner, who has 57 caps for Germany, has only scored twice in eight Bundesliga games this season for RB Leipzig under Marco Rose, though he has found his playing time to be restricted.
If the transactions go through, Werner will compete for a spot on the Spurs roster against players like Richarlison, Son, Dejan Kulusevski, Bryan Gil, and Brennan Johnson.
