Tim Ryan, a Democrat who served in the House of Representatives for over two decades and was a candidate for president in 2016, is now running for the seat left vacant by the resignation of Republican Rob Portman, who resigned earlier this month.

In part, this was due to the backing of his party and Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, who helped him win the nomination by a significant margin. In the general election in November, he will face conservative pundit J.D. Vance, who was nominated for the Republican primary with Trump’s late endorsement.

Since 2010, when Donald Trump won both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, Republicans have held statewide elections in the state of Ohio.

Here are some interesting facts about Ryan that you should know.
