Early Life
Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., known professionally as Snoop Dogg, On October 20, 1971, in Long Beach, California, the United States of America, was born under the zodiac sign Libra, of American nationality and black ethnicity. He was born to Vernell Varnado and Beverly Tate. His parents split up three months after his birth, leaving his father largely absent. His mother got remarried his stepfather, who nicknamed him Snoop because of his love for the cartoon character Peanut.
He was the second of three sons born to his mother.
Broadus worked as a child selling candy, delivering newspapers, and bagging groceries to help his family make ends meet. Snoop began singing and playing piano at a young age at the Golgotha Trinity Baptist Church. In sixth grade, he began rapping. He attended and graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1989. Despite his mother’s efforts to keep him out of trouble, he began engaging in illegal activities and joining gangs as a teenager.

Career
Broadus used the stage moniker Snoop Doggy Dogg when he started recording. Along with the other members of his old beginning group, Tha Dogg Pound, Dr. Dre began working with him on the 1992 movie Deep Cover’s title song and later on his debut solo album, The Chronic.
Doggystyle, Broadus’ first solo album, was produced by Dr. Dre and released in November 1993 by Death Row Records. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. Doggystyle, a 1994 album with the hits “What’s My Name?” and “Gin and Juice,” sold 800,000 copies in its first week and was given a quadruple-platinum certification. Snoop’s score for the 1994 Snoop-starring short film Murder Was the Case was made available on Death Row Records. Tha Doggfather, his second album, debuted at number one on both charts in 1996, with “Snoop’s Upside Ya Head” as the lead single.
The album achieved double-platinum status the following year.
Snoop signed with No Limit Records after leaving Death Row Records in January 1998. Three Snoop albums were released on that label: Not to Be Told (1998), Da Game Is to Be Sold, No Limit Top Dogg in 1999, and Tha Last Meal in 2000. He joined Priority/Capitol/EMI Records in 2002 and dropped Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss that same year.
In 2004, he joined Geffen Records and released three more albums: Carpet Treatment, R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece, Tha Blue, and Ego Trippin’. His albums Malice ‘n Wonderland and Doggumentary were released by Priority Records in 2009 and 2011, respectively. Snoop Dogg has appeared in films and hosted several television programs, including Doggy Fizzle Televizzle, Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood, and Dogg After Dark. He also oversees a high school football squad and a youth football league. He was appointed chairman of the revived Priority Records by EMI in September 2009.
After visiting Jamaica, Snoop revealed in 2012 that he had converted to Rastafari and adopted the nickname Snoop Lion. Reincarnated, a reggae album by Snoop Lion and a movie with the same name about his time in Jamaica were both released in the first quarter of 2013.
