Shubman Gill Career
As cricket is by far the most popular sport in India, Gill only ever wanted to be a cricketer since he was a child. That dream became a reality in 2017 when Gill made his List A debut for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Later that year, after his initial success, he made his first-class debut in the Ranji Trophy. In his second-ever first-class match he made the headlines across India. Gill scored a maiden century against Services at just 18.
After several impressive batting performances, in 2018 Gil caught the eye of the Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders. The IPL outfit purchased the batsman for $230K in the IPL auction in January, and he made his Twenty20 debut in April 2018.
Gill quickly made a name for himself as a skilled batsman. In January 2019 he scored his 1000th run in first-class cricket in only 15 innings. He was listed in March 2019 by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as one of eight players to watch ahead of the 2019 IPL tournament. In the tournament, he performed so well that he scooped the Emerging Player award.
With such incredible batting statistics, Gil got the attention of the Indian national team. He made his One Day International debut against New Zealand at Seddon Park, Hamilton. From there, Gil started breaking records. In August 2019, Shubhi became the youngest Indian ever (19 years 334 days old) to score a double century in a first-class match.
In December 2020, Gill made his Test debut, playing Australia. After losing the first match, Shubhi helped his side come back with exceptional fielding and batting.
His current team is Glamorgan in the UK and has been in excellent form. On his debut, he scored a half-century, and got his maiden century against Sussex in September 2022.
