Former England international Shaun Wright-Phillips has believed Mason Mount can win the Ballon D’or if he continues his impressive form at Chelsea.
Mason Mount has won back-to-back Chelsea player of the season after impressing the Blues since his debut under former Chelsea coach and Legend Frank Lampard. Mason Mount is also a regular member of the England National team under Gareth Southgate.
The 23 years old England international was instrumental in Chelsea’s second Champions League winning run. He assisted Kai Havertz to score the only goal in the Champions League final against Manchester City. Mason Mount has made 160 appearances for Chelsea and has scored 30 goals in the process.
Mount was Chelsea’s top goal scorer and top assist provider with 11 goals and 10 assists respectively in 32 appearances.
Former Chelsea and Manchester City attack Wright-Phillips claims Mason Mount has what it takes to win the prestigious award in the future.
What did Shaun Wright-Phillip say about Mason Mount Ballon D’or chances?
In an interview with Genting Casino, Wright-Phillips said: “Mount is still a young player and is still learning to be consistent.
“He’s played so well and is carrying Chelsea on his shoulders and helped them get into the Champions League, but people need to remember how young he is and that he’s still got a lot to learn.
“If Chelsea were to win trophies and Mason Mount is the stand-out player, there is no reason why he couldn’t win the Ballon d’Or one day.”
Meanwhile, Wright-Phillips believes Robert Lewandoski and Ousmane Dembele will be perfect signings for Chelsea.
Chelsea is trying to offload Romelu Lukaku this summer after the Belgian striker failed
To live up to the bailing after his €101 million record signing from Inter Milan.
However, Shaun claims Robert Lewandoski will be a perfect replacement for Lewandoski and also thinks free agent Ousmane Dembele is a fantastic footballer and will fit the Premier League.
He added: “Robert Lewandowski would be the perfect replacement for Romelu Lukaku if Lukaku does leave. No matter what team he plays in, he always scores goals.
“Dembele is a fantastic footballer, it’s just about whether his body can handle the physicality of the Premier League and if he can play a consistent run of games because he’s had so many injuries.
“If Chelsea can keep him fit then he’ll be a massive player for them.”
Shaun Wright-Phillip also weighed in on the Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez debate.
The former England international believes Erling Haaland will score more goals for Manchester City than Darwin Nunez at Liverpool.
Wright-Philip continued: “I think between Darwin Nunez and Haaland, with Man City creating 10 or more chances a game, even on a bad day, [Haaland] should be rubbing his hands together.
“Nunez suits the way Liverpool play and you can see that, because of how well both [teams] recruit, both players look to already fit perfectly into the team.
“[But] I think Haaland will win the Golden Boot. It’s just a matter of how many goals he will score really. The creative players in City’s team have hit double figures [for goal contributions] regularly – and that’s without having a player like Haaland in the team.
“Haaland is the missing piece in the Man City jigsaw and with his signing, they can win the Champions League next season.”
