The attorney for a suspect in the murder of Detroit synagogue president Samantha Woll stated Saturday that the suspect had been freed.
An attorney for the suspect declined to comment on the matter other than to clarify that the defendant had been released.
The Detroit Police Department announced the arrest of a suspect on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
The man was apprehended in Kalamazoo, according to authorities.
Woll, the president of Detroit’s Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue, was found stabbed to death outside her Lafayette Park home on Saturday, Oct. 21.
Woll had attended a wedding the night before and came home at 12:30 a.m. Woll’s house had no traces of forced entry, according to police. Investigators suspect Woll was stabbed inside her home before fleeing to her yard, where she was discovered.
On Oct. 23, Detroit Police Chief James White stated during a press conference that evidence indicated the crime was not motivated by antisemitism.
On Wednesday, Sam Dubin of the Jewish Community Relations Council stated, “We’re still mourning Sam’s loss but really celebrating the life and legacy she leaves behind.”
Woll has served on Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin’s team and has managed the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue since 2022.
