Singer Elle King is the daughter of Rob Schneider.
After being asked to halt his show early at a fundraiser in June, Rob Schneider is standing by his comedic style.
Several Canadians who were attending a fundraiser for the Hospitals of Regina Foundation left the event in protest after “yelling” at Schneider for making what they perceived to be divisive statements.
That type of criticism, according to comedian and singer Elle King’s father, is proof that he’s “doing it right.”
“Free speech is all speech, that’s the thing about it. Free speech isn’t only for polite people. Not for the things that are socially acceptable. At the New York premiere of his friend Adam Sandler’s new Netflix comedy special, he told The Hollywood Reporter that “free speech is the speech that challenges you.”
“Free speech is what’s offensive. Speech that is easy to understand or that is acceptable to everybody does not require protection. I’m there to pose questions to the audience,” he said.
According to Schneider, the ability to make “challenging” comedy is a key to success.
“These days, people get angry over stuff. And it’s alright,” Schneider said. “I believe that stand-up and art will be more intriguing the more tough society and comedy are.
“Art is dull when everything runs smoothly. While the 1990s may have been dull at times, the present is both exciting and difficult.”
Additionally, Schneider told the publication how “lovely” it is that his buddy and colleague comic Sandler “always includes me.” According to what he told THR, he received a phone from Sandler asking him to “come out here,” and “the next thing you know,” Schneider was joining him on stage for his comedy special, “Love You.”
Over the years, Sandler and Schneider have acted together in several films, such as “Big Daddy,” “The Waterboy,” and “Grown Ups.”
