Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed that Tottenham duo Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min will be pissed off with Antonio Conte’s style of play.
Tottenham under Antonio Conte have been criticized for playing boring football and sitting deep in their own half.
Antonio Conte’s style of playing seems to be yielding result as Tottenham are third in the Premier League behind Arsenal and Manchester City. Tottenham are booked their spot in the round of 16 of the Champions League after a 2-1 victory over Marseille.
Harry Kane seems to be enjoying life under Antonio Conte this season. Kane has 10 goals in 13 appearances this season in the Premier League and one goal in six Champions League appearances.
Son Heung-Min has also scored 5 goals in 19 appearances this season.
What did Rio Ferdinand say?
Ferdinand said on BT Sports: “What do you want? Do you want success and take a bit away from the style, or do you want to go back to playing good football and don’t really win much? That’s something you can ask the fans.
“If you look at it as a player. As a player, I think some players in that squad will be frustrated with the way they’re playing.
“If you look at Son, Kane, and all the strikers in that team, they’ll be sitting there going…well Kane ain’t going to be near the top of the goal charts.
“Well, Haaland’s obviously breezing it, but Kane would want to be having that fight and having that argument. At the moment he’s a bit hamstrung.
“When you watch him sometimes, he’s almost like a defensive midfielder, the positions he’s playing, due to the structure.”
Meanwhile, Tottenham assistant manager Cristian Stellini has provided an update on Son Heung-Min’s head injury.
Son Heung-Min suffered a head injury against Marseille in the Champions League.
Providing an update on the extent of the injury, Cristian Stellini said at a press conference: “At this moment, we don’t know. We have to wait for a medical assessment, and we have to wait until tomorrow. Sonny feels better now. I saw him in the dressing room. He celebrated with us. So we will wait for tomorrow.”
“It is his face. His eye is a bit swollen.”
He also hailed Tottenham’s fighting spirit after a difficult first half against Marseille.
“It was very difficult in the first half. In the difficulties, we didn’t lose our minds. We stayed in the match. It was terrible the goal we conceded because from a corner, they took it quickly, and we were not prepared,” He added.
“It is an important lesson for the future. But in the second half, something changed, and we spoke in the dressing about the energy we need in the second half and the way we have to press them and counter the game.
“In the first half, we never used energy to press and create difficulties, and they controlled the game very well. In the second, this aspect changed, and we played a fantastic second half.”
