In the 48 hours following his indictment on Thursday, former President Donald Trump raised almost $5 million in contributions.
According to Axios, Trump’s fans contributed $4 million in the first 24 hours, followed by more than $1 million the next day. The increase in financing partially validates Trump and some of his friends’ beliefs that an indictment would only serve to endear him to his base further.
According to Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller, this individual has run for president of the United States twice. A new segment of Trump supporters is outraged by what they perceive to be political persecution.
On Tuesday, Trump is expected to surrender to authorities in New York. The Secret Service will accompany him while New York authorities book, fingerprint, and photograph the president.
“The Manhattan District Attorney’s crusade against President Donald J. Trump is nothing more than political persecution,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung told the outlet. “There is no crime whatsoever, except for election interference by radical Democrats through weaponization of our justice system against President Trump and his supporters,” he added.
Trump has criticized DA Alvin Bragg as yet another participant in the president’s years-long “witch hunt.”
Trump is accused of providing hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels in an attempt to keep her from going public about their relationship.
Even some of Trump’s longest detractors, including Jeb Bush, have expressed skepticism regarding Bragg’s conviction.
“His predecessor did not pursue the case. The Department of Justice did not pursue the matter. Bragg first stated that he would not pursue the case. This is a highly political problem, not one of justice. In this instance, the jury should vote “Bush sent a tweet on Saturday.
On Monday, Trump is slated to travel from his Mar-a-Lago residence to New York City, where he will spend his final night before his arraignment in Trump Tower.
