This last week, Gwen Casten, the congressman’s daughter, passed suddenly at his residence.
After the passing of his daughter Gwen, Democratic Representative Sean Casten of Illinois issued a statement in which he discussed the life that she had lived as well as the events that occurred the night before she passed away.
Gwen Casten, who was 17 years old, passed away early on Monday morning, according to the office of the congressman; the reason for her passing has not been made public. There does not appear to have been anything out of the norm that took place in the time leading up to Casten’s statement, which was posted on Twitter on Wednesday.
After having dinner with us as a family on Sunday, she went out with many of her friends and spent the evening with them. So, after saying goodbye to Kara and me and contacting a friend to ensure she arrived safely, she went to bed and didn’t return the next morning.” Casten’s message was just that. “The only thing we know for definite about her death is that it was peaceful. And the only thing we can take away from it is the importance of cherishing the time we have with the people we care about. As a civilization, we want to believe that things will improve in the future so that we will have a reason to get out of bed in the morning. The only location where we have any power over our future is right now.”
When officers arrived at the Casten residence in Downers Grove, Illinois, they discovered the death of a 17-year-old female. The body of the girl had been found in the house.
