Reece James suffered a knee injury in Chelsea’s Champions League victory over Ac Milan at the San Siro in October.
The Chelsea right-back was due to spend eight weeks on the sideline. Per his rehab schedule, Reece James is expected to be fit in the Knock out stage of the World Cup.
There were news reports that Reece James has been told by Gareth Southgate that he would not make the England 26-men squad for the World Cup.
Reacting to his omission from Gareth Southgate England’s 26 men’s squad for the World, the 22-year-old said on Twitter: “Devastated.
“The minute I injured my knee, I knew the turnaround to make the World Cup would be tight, but I always felt it was possible.
“I’ve worked harder than I ever thought I could to give myself the best chance of going and truly believe I could help the team.
“I appreciate there was a risk on both sides but it was one I was willing to take. Good luck to the boys. I’ll be back soon. Stay safe & sending love.”
Mateo Kovacic is still not 100% fit, the Croatian international is still nursing his knee injury.
Providing an update on the fitness of Mateo Kovacic, Graham Potter said: “He’s just had an ongoing knee issue that is a little bit of discomfort. It hasn’t stopped him completely. He’s not able to play properly, certainly, we’ve had to be conscious of that during this period. It’s not a massive problem for him. He’ll be fine for the World Cup.
“I wouldn’t necessarily say he’s 100%, but he’s not far off that. It’s just we’ve managed it really well. He’s managed it really well. He’s a top professional. He’s done everything he can in terms of rehab, looking after himself in the gym, and making sure his body is as good as can be. Fantastic professional.
“Yeah, I think it’s been going on from pretty much pre-season, and we’ve tried to make the best of it.”
Meanwhile, AS Roma Manager Jose Mourinho thinks the World Cup is the reason behind Tammy Abraham’s poor goal-scoring form.
Tammy Abraham has scored only once in his last 12 appearances for AS Roma. However, Jose Mourinho believes the England attacker is being distracted by the World Cup.
Asked what is the cause of Tammy Abraham’s poor form, Mourinho said: “You should ask him what’s the problem.
“If he is distracted, if he has a problem or if he’s thinking about the World Cup.”
Gareth Southgate will announce England 26 men’s squad on Thursday morning.
