Chelsea manager Graham Potter has come under criticism for admitting that Arsenal were the better team in Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at home.
Graham Potter in a post-match press conference said: “We played against a team in a really good moment and a confident team, so credit to them.
“We have to look at where the two teams are at. Arsenal are in a good moment and have worked together for a long time. We’re in a different phase.
“We lacked quality but the effort was there and we were beaten by the better team today.
“We huffed and puffed but you could see the difference between the two teams in terms of confidence, structure, and work together.
“We’re not in a fantastic moment as we speak and in the end, Arsenal deserved to win because they were the better team overall.
“We have to take that and use it as motivation to improve. Arsenal defends well, they press well, and make it difficult for you to create chances.”
Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour was not impressed with Graham Potter’s remarks about Arsenal after the Chelsea manager praised Arsenal as the better team.
What did Ray Parlour say?
Reacting to Graham Potter’s interview on TalkSports, The former England midfielder said: “I listened to the interview after, all he did was talk about Arsenal and how good they are.
“He can’t do that. You’re at Chelsea. This is Arsenal vs Chelsea. Chelsea have won multiple trophies over the years, the standards are so high.
“That’s the problem you’ve got. You can’t be coming out and praising the other team. They didn’t lay a glove on Arsenal.
“How many times did Arsenal nick the ball back when [Chelsea] players were looking up, and there’s no movement?
“There’s no one running in behind. They can nick the ball back and then suddenly you’re back at Chelsea’s back four again.”
Meanwhile, Graeme Souness claims Chelsea are in “jeopardy” of missing out on top four.
The Scottish Icon said on TalkSport when asked if Liverpool and Tottenham will finish in the top four: “I think both of them will be in the top four.
“I think Chelsea are in jeopardy, a lot depends on what they do in the transfer window.
“Arsenal are looking convincing at the moment, they look like a really good team. But I think everyone is playing for second place this season.
“So that’s my top-four prediction. Tottenham will continue to win games the way they’re playing. Antonio Conte did remarkably well to get them fourth last season.
“He’s a vastly experienced manager who knows what he’s doing. If he’s going down the route of being pragmatic, you have to believe in him, that would be my message to the Tottenham fans.
“You’ve got a guy there who knows what he’s doing. I think he’s the right man for the job and will do well at Spurs.”
