Raheem Sterling had revealed the Chelsea player he was looking forward to lining up with when he joined Chelsea.
Sterling enjoyed a successful eight at Manchester United, winning four Premier League titles, four Carabao Cups, and the FA Cup. He joined Chelsea in the summer for £50 million.
The England international faced Chelsea on numerous occasions during his time at Manchester City including the Champions League finals, where Chelsea won by 1-0.
Sterling has revealed that Mateo Kovacic was the Chelsea player he was looking forward to playing with and the toughest he faced.
What did Raheem Sterling say?
Asked about the Chelsea players he was looking forward to lineup with upon joining Chelsea, Sterling told BT Sport: “Mateo Kovacic to be fair.
“When we used to play him for Manchester City I used to think ‘ oh my good gosh,’ I’m not going to lie.
“I always used to think ‘oh my gosh.’ I used to love playing with Mason [Mount] for England as well. He’s just a little busy, always getting on the ball and stuff. But those two are for sure.
“There were a few times Kova was doing some serious stuff against us.”
Raheem Sterling has also revealed that he was not happy with his performance.
He added: “There have been early parts of the season that I was not happy with my performances.
“So far I’ve been nowhere near the level that I need to be but I’m sure that will come as time passes.
“It’s not something that I’m panicking or stressed about. It’s part of the game. We’re in a decent position in the table, we’ve qualified for the Champions League, but there will be better performances from myself in the near future.”
Graham Potter has been criticized for playing Raheem Sterling as wingback but Sterling has insisted that he is happy with whatever position the coach asks him to play.
He said: “You come to a new team, there are different things that are going to be asked of you and it’s a different shape. I haven’t played in a back five for a while, but it’s something the manager’s asked me to do and something that I’m more than happy to do as well.
“When we’ve got the ball I’m high and wide but of course, you have to defend as well, that’s part of the game. The more time I have to figure it out in this position the better I will do.
“I feel my best position is as a winger, but like anything the manager has his way of playing. He’s not had a full pre-season with us, he was dropped in the middle of a storm really. He came in and I think he’s grabbed it with both hands and he’s trying to figure out the best personnel for positions and I’m sure with time it will come together nicely.”
Sterling has not scored in his last seven Premier League appearances, he will be hoping to end the drought when Chelsea faces Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
