If you’ve read reviews of AHS or another great home warranty provider, you’ll probably be aware of the many advantages of getting coverage on your property.

Although home warranties aren’t a legal obligation, they are a beneficial thing to have if you want financial protection for multiple things in your home. Most policies offer coverage for an extensive range of appliances and systems, and there’s the option to add extra layers of coverage to an existing policy.

However, there are also a few cons to getting a home warranty. They aren’t suitable for everybody and many homeowners choose not to take out a policy.

In this article, we’re going to cover the pros and cons of getting a home warranty so that you can make an informed decision as to whether or not you want to take out a policy on your property.

What Are the Pros of Getting a Home Warranty?

Below, we’ve listed some of the benefits of getting a warranty on your home.

Peace of Mind

One of the main benefits of taking out a home warranty is the peace of mind that it provides. If you’re somebody who often worries about paying for repairs on appliances and systems in your home, you can relax a little when you’ve got the financial coverage of a home warranty.

If your kitchen appliances break, the HVAC system malfunctions, or your refrigerator runs into problems, your warranty provider can cover some or all of the repair costs. You won’t need to pay out of your own pocket, and this can relieve a lot of financial strain and worry.

Top-Quality Technicians

Home warranty providers are in contact with the best repair technicians. If something breaks in your home, you can quickly access a qualified technician to resolve the issue so you aren’t left too long without your home essentials.

You’ll also save time searching for technicians by yourself. All you’ll need to do is file a claim with your warranty provider and you’ll have a technician at your door in no time.

What Are the Cons of Getting a Home Warranty?

Here are some of the disadvantages of getting a home warranty.

Limits and Exceptions

Every home warranty plan has limits. If your repair bills are extensive, your warranty provider may not cover all of the costs and you’ll need to pay for some of them yourself.

Home warranties also have exceptions, meaning there will be damages that aren’t covered by your policy. If items or systems that aren’t part of our policy break, your provider won’t cover the costs of repairs or replacements.

For example, your policy might not cover your solar panels, ice machine, or garbage disposal system.

You Might Not Make a Claim

Even if you don’t file a claim on your home warranty, you are still obligated to pay for it in accordance with your contract. Should your home appliances and systems work perfectly for the duration of your home warranty, you’ll end up paying for coverage that you didn’t actually need.
