According to a recent poll from The New York Times and Siena College, more respondents say they would choose former President Donald Trump over President Joe Biden if the election were held today.
Biden’s approval rating dropped below 40% for the first time since his August bounce, according to the poll of likely voters. Between October 9 and 12, NYT and Siena surveyed 792 registered voters through landlines and cellphones in both English and Spanish; the margin of error was 4%. The vast majority of Americans, 64%, are of the opinion that the nation is headed in the wrong direction.
With 45% support to Biden‘s 44% in the election question, Trump just barely defeated Biden. Despite the fact that 52% of voters said they had a somewhat or very negative opinion of Trump, he still led that survey.
A positive finding from the poll for Republicans going into the midterm elections was that 49% of voters said they were more inclined to support a Republican candidate than a Democratic candidate, while 45% of voters said they were more likely to support a Democrat.
