According to an expert, antisemitic hate crimes were already the most prevalent.
According to crime statistics for New York City, hate crimes in the Big Apple are expected to increase for the fourth year in a row due to an increase in antisemitic events.
The most current statistics available indicates that as of May 31, there had been 276 reports of hate crimes in the city. It is an increase from 2023’s 210. Anti-Jewish events increased from 97 to 164 in the same time, almost accounting for the whole rise.
Protests against Israel were held in tandem with an increase in antisemitic occurrences on the city’s main college campuses, such as Columbia and New York University.
“That’s not a coincidence,” stated Joseph Giacalone, a professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a retired NYPD sergeant.
