Manchester City will welcome Chelsea at Etihad for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. Pep Guardiola’s side are unbeaten in 10 games at the Etihad this season and have scored more than two goals in those matches.
Raheem Sterling spend eight years at Manchester City, winning 12 trophies at the Eithad including the Premier League, FA Cup, and the Carabao Cup. He scored 139 goals in 333 appearances for Manchester City.
Sterling will be returning to the Etihad to face his former side since moving to Chelsea. The 27-year-old will be probably in the lineup against Manchester City on Wednesday.
Pep Guardiola has admitted he has watched his few games at Chelsea and also wished him all the best.
What did Pep Guardiola say about Raheem Sterling?
Asked about Raheem Sterling’s current form at Chelsea, Pep Guardiola said: “I watched a few games. But it doesn’t matter what he’s playing or doing, the opinion of him, all of you know it. I wish him all the best, and hopefully, he’s happy there.
“We worked six years together, every year, every day, being together, working, playing a lot of games.
“Maybe the most important game we played, the final of the Champions League, he was there. So if he’s happy, we’re happy.”
Sterling was criticized by Manchester City fans after he said in an interview with SkySports that his lack of playing made him move to Chelsea in the summer.
Asked if Raheem Sterling would be given a good reception at the Eithad, Guardiola added: “I hope so, I definitely hope so.
”Always I like the clubs when they welcome the guys that have been here many years and been a key figure, an important role in our team in all these years.
“Maybe you forget, what happened in the last months, but that is not the reality of what happened in a period of six, seven years he was here. He deserves (a good reception), of course. Of course, we want to beat them, but of course, he has to get a good reception. I think in England the people appreciate that.”
The Spanish international also urged Chelsea owners and fans to give Graham Potter time.
Pep said: “If Chelsea accepts my humble advice, give him time, and he will do well.
“He needs time, everyone needs time. No one has had success from day one.
“I have a lot of admiration for his work, what he has done with Brighton is beyond exceptional. I’m pretty sure, with time, he will do a good job. I don’t have any doubts. He is one of the best managers, from my point of view, that we have in this league.”
