In recent years, Philadelphia, like many U.S. cities, has experienced an increase in violence. According to data from the Philadelphia Police Department, the city’s homicide rate has surpassed 500 in each of the past two years, and overall crime is up nearly 16% year-to-date.
According to data from the Philadelphia Police Department, there were nearly 70.000 property offenses in the city in 2022, a 30% rise from the previous year. While armed robberies have decreased by nearly 13%, they are still above pre-pandemic levels.
Victoria Wylie, co-owner of a sandwich restaurant that employs armed security guards, told Fox News Digital, “When I think of Philadelphia and the community we serve, West Philadelphia, crime is still very prevalent.” “As someone who is reopening a very popular business that people have been waiting for, we do not know who will be coming.”
