Authorities have determined that the catch of the blue marlin was unlawful since it included mutilation of the animal.
After a review, a group of three anglers who caught a blue marlin weighing 619 pounds at a fishing competition in North Carolina over the weekend were disqualified.
In Morehead City, during the 65th annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament, the boat Sensation was able to successfully reel in the coveted fish. On Saturday, the tournament’s Facebook page included a photo of the crew with their enormous haul, but it also included a warning that they may have violated one of the tournament’s rules.
