There were reports in the news this week and last week that Manchester United has met with the representatives of England and Tottenham striker Harry Kane over a possible transfer this summer.
Harry Kane’s contract expires summer of 2024 at Tottenham and but he is expected to seek a move from the North London club this summer as Tottenham’s chances of finishing in the top four this season are slipping out of their hands following their 6-1 defeat to Newcastle United during the weekends.
Manchester United, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich are the clubs monitoring Harry Kane. Bayern Munich may be out of the race to sign the English striker as Harry Kane is determined to say in the Premier League to break the Premier League all-time goal record set by Alan Shearer.
Chelsea could also increase their chance of signing Harry Kane in the summer following the news that Mauricio Pochettino is in contention to be Chelsea’s manager next season. Still, their lack of Champions League football could be the heddle.
However, former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic believes despite Harry Kane’s excellent goal-scoring abilities, Manchester United should target a younger striker.
What did Nemanja Vidic say?
Speaking as a guest on Rio Ferdinand Vibe with Five, he asked if Harry Kane could solve Manchester United striker’s problem: “I will not buy the striker if I am not sure, 100 percent.’ Pushed on Kane again, he added: ‘For how much money? How old is he?
“He has been a top striker for the last ten years, and he will score the goals, but definitely, I will go for other options. Whatever are other options, I will go for other options.
“There is a way to have a striker for many years. The club has to think for many years, have to find players who are 23, 24; they are going to stay there for seven years. Especially in the heart of the team.
“In that heart of the team you have to have two, three players all the time and everything else you are going to create.”
The Serbian also added that Manchester United does not only need a striker, a defender, and a midfielder.
He added: “If you ask me, honestly, it’s not just a striker. I think definitely the players who win the title are the players playing in the middle, the striker, the midfielder, and two central defenders.
“Everything else, you can do it. This is the heart of the team. I think we can still strengthen that. I think the striker is the toughest question you can ask me. I don’t know.
“And I think you cannot say that fast, you have to do diligence, you have to understand what you need, and this is a time now where the club has to think about it, and definitely, I think it is a defender the club should look at as well.
“Because I see we have injured defenders. So I definitely think we need someone who is actually young, to challenge those two.”
