Mykhailo Mykhailovych Podolyak, popularly known as Mihajlo Mihajlovic, born on (February 16, 1972) in Lviv, Ukraine is a Ukrainian politician, journalist, and political strategist who now serves as the advisor to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
During the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, he was appointed as one of the delegates of Ukraine to participate in peace talks with the Russians on behalf of Ukraine.

Podolyak was a journalist for many periodicals in the 1990s, including Narodnaja Vola and Belorusskaya Delovaya Gazeta, and a newspaper linked with pro-Russian politician Sergei Gaidukevich. Members of Belarus’ democratic opposition chastised Podolyak for discrediting previous opposition presidential candidate Aleksandar Milinkievi in a book.
Podolyak was the deputy editor-in-chief of the opposition Belarusian newspaper Vremya in 2004. In June 2004, officials from Belarus’ KGB arrived at his home and offered him half an hour to retrieve his belongings.

Podolyak joined the Office of the President of Ukraine as an assistant to the head of the Office and an “anti-crisis manager” in April 2020. He is in charge of the Office’s whole information policy and personally advises Volodymyr Zelenskyy. On February 25, Russia invaded Ukraine, and Podolyak took part in the first round of Ukrainian-Russian talks. Ukraine’s main requests were a cease-fire, the departure of Russian soldiers, and security assurances. Following uncovering Russian war crimes in Bucha, Podolyak ruled out any discussions with Russia and refused to accept any compromise that lost territory to Russia.
Since the Russian invasion started, over 20,000 people have been slain in Mariupol. On June 17, 2022, Podolyak said that if Ukraine possessed heavy weaponry, it might win the war in three to six months. Due to the emotional backdrop in Ukraine, he said on August 9, 2022, that it was impossible to return to the March 2022 Istanbul communiqué. On August 10, 2022, he said that if a single place of fighting survives, the war would be declared incomplete. On August 16, 2022, he told the Ukrainians the current goal was to confuse them with Russian soldiers.
Negotiations with Russia, Podolyak said, were a game of Russian roulette with a catastrophic outcome for everyone. He also rejected a “congratulatory” letter from Belarus’s disputed President, Alexander Lukashenko, and the Chinese peace initiative.
