Early Life
Michael Gerard Tyson was born to Jimmy Kirkpatrick and Lorna Smith Tyson, on June 30, 1966, in Fort Greene, New York, United States of America. He was born under the Cancer zodiac sign, American nationality, and black ethnicity. He is the brother of Rodney Tyson, Denise Tyson, and Jimmie Lee Kirkpatrick. Around the time Mike was born, he abandoned the Tyson family, leaving Tyson’s mother to raise the kids by herself.
Tyson’s mother died when he was just sixteen years old. Mike grew up in a violent and high-crime neighborhood. Tyson had 38 arrests by age 13, and he frequently got into fights with bigger children who made fun of his voice (Mike speaks with a lisp). A former boxer and a juvenile detention instructor spotted Tyson’s fighting skills in class. He worked with several trainers before meeting Cus D’Amatto, who would significantly influence the future boxing champion. When Tyson was 16 years old, his mother passed away, and D’Amatto was appointed his legal guardian. Tyson has collaborated with Kevin Rooney since he was a young man.

Tyson earned his first nineteen professional boxing by knockout in the first round. Tyson is the earliest boxer to win a heavyweight title at the age of 20 years, four months, and 22 days. The only heavyweight to successfully unify the WBA, WBC, and IBF belts in succession, he was the first heavyweight boxer to do so. The following year, Tyson defeated Michael Spinks in the opening round in 91 seconds to win the lineal championship.
Tyson pleaded guilty to rape in 1992 and was given a six-year prison term; however, he got freed on parole after three years. In 1996, he won back the WBA and WBC belts, becoming one of just six boxers to do so (the others being Floyd Patterson, Muhammed Ali, Tim Witherspoon, Evander Holyfield, and George Foreman) after being released from prison in 1995.
He lost the WBA title to Evander Holyfield in the eleventh round the same year he was stripped of the WBC crown. Tyson got disqualified for biting Holyfield’s ears during their 1997 rematch; one bite was infamously strong enough to tear off a part of Holyfield’s right ear. In 2002, Lennox Lewis knocked out Tyson in a fight for the world heavyweight championship.
Tyson was renowned for his aggressive behavior inside and outside the ring and his vicious and terrifying boxing style. He was named first on ESPN’s list of “the Hardest Hitters in Heavyweight History” and 16th on The Ring magazine’s list of the 100 best punchers of all time with an 88% knockout-to-win percentage. Sky Sports said he was “perhaps the most dangerous fighter to ever step into a professional ring.” Both the World Boxing Hall of Fame and the International Boxing Hall of Fame have inducted him.
