Looking online at houses worth millions can be a tempting way to spend some time and scratch that curious itch – thinking about what you’d do with each room and how nice it would be to live there. However, it’s also an activity that can make you look at your current home with a degree of frustration. Its shortcomings become more apparent, and your lack of space starts to feel truly confining.

This isn’t a problem with a simple solution – most people don’t have the money to move to a bigger place. That being said, taking a second look at your current living situation can give you some ideas of how to make the most of that space and view it more positively.

Don’t Take Up Space

An obvious suggestion might be to simply avoid taking up as much space where that’s possible. Some people might point to a minimalist lifestyle or interior design style to show how this can be feasible, but you don’t need to go that far to follow this path. For example, instead of expanding your home with a garage to keep your car covered or protected, you could just look into how to install cantilever carports Sydney, which can have the same effect without occupying so much of your outside space.

When it comes to your interior space, having a clear out of clothes or belongings you don’t use and then trying to avoid acquiring items that fall into this camp might embrace some of the minimalist philosophy, but it can help you keep your home clutter-free.

Mirrors and Furniture Arrangement

Part of what you might struggle with due to a lack of space could also be a lack of natural light. Careful use of mirrors can allow you to make the most of what light there is, and could have a surprising impact on how big your interior starts to feel. To take this mentality further, arranging the furniture in rooms so that you have enough open space can also be beneficial. For example, you might feel as though your living room needs a coffee table, but having one right in the center of the room could be an obstruction. Instead, having two smaller surfaces to act as tables on either side of the sofa could offer the same benefits without taking up room.

Outside Space

If you are fortunate enough to have access to private outside space, another option that you have is to make this as much of an extension of your home as possible. While that might sound obvious, you might not spend as much time in your garden as you do with the inside of your home – this could be due to factors like the weather, but it might also be that it’s not equipped for it. Having a space where you can sit and read, relax, or spend your time in any other way could not only help your home to feel less confined, but it could also provide you with the benefits of spending time outside.
