Frank Lampard was confirmed as Chelsea’s interim manager till the end of the season following the sacking of Graham Potter. This will be Frank Lampard’s second stint in charge of the West London Club.
He was first appointed the manager of Chelsea in 2019 to replace Mauricio Sarri. The Chelsea legend was sacked in 2021 following a run of poor results in the Premier League and Thomas Tuchel was appointed as his successor.
Frank Lampard signed Edouard Mendy from Rennes to replace Kepa as Chelsea first choice Goalkeeper. Kepa Arrizabalaga has been Chelsea’s first choice of Goalkeeper since the beginning of the season following Mendy’s poor form and injury.
The Spanish international in an interview questions Frank Lampards tactics following his dismissal. In the interview, Kepa said: “We came from a not-so-elaborate game (with Lampard). We didn’t have to take the ball from behind, a less planned game, more (about) the free expression of the player, back and forth, and less control.
“With Tuchel we have returned to control. It is true that in the Premier League we were not close to the top two, but in the other tournaments we were very competitive.”
Many Pundit fears the comment made by Kepa Arrizabalaga could lead to him being dropped to the bench again to pave way for Edouard Mendy following Frank Lampard’s arrival.
Former Chelsea star Mario Melchiot believes it will be hard for Kepa in the dressing room and fears he may lose his spot in the team.
What did Mario Melchiot say?
He told ESPN FC: “You know how hard it will be for Kepa to be in the dressing room?
“You had a go at your coach and that coach comes back and now you have to sit with him. Oh my God… I don’t know what Kepa is going to do.
“I want to give advice to any footballer: never talk about your coach in public, always do it directly. You might meet him again.”
Meanwhile, Paul Merson has predicted Frank Lampard to win his first game as Chelsea’s interim manager.
He said on Sportskeeda: “This is a hard one to call because, at the end of the day, there’s nothing in this football match for Chelsea.
“They have a match against Real Madrid on Wednesday night. Chelsea are going to rest every player and if they do, they won’t score many goals.
“With a new manager coming in, however, they might try to win this game to gain a bit of confidence before going to the Bernabeu. It’s a bit of a catch-22 situation for them.
“Six weeks ago, Wolves would’ve thought they would be playing against Chelsea while fighting a relegation battle.
“They wouldn’t mind this fixture too much now because it’s not the hardest game in the world anymore, with Chelsea facing Real Madrid next week.
“N’Golo Kante was brilliant against Liverpool. You wouldn’t have realized he was out for so long, would you?
“His return is like a new signing for Chelsea. I’m not sure they’ll play him against the Wolves this week – they could save him for Real Madrid.
“Chelsea is creating chances but hasn’t been able to score goals. Sooner or later, they’re going to hit the target.
“I don’t think they’ll go another game without scoring a goal, and I think they’ll win this game 2-0.”
