Manchester United were busy in the transfer market, spending over €200 million in signing Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, De Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Sekou Kone and Manuel Ugarte on transfer deadline day.
Over ten players, including high-profile names Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Scott McTominay, and Jadon Sancho, left the Red Devils during the summer transfer window.
One predictable transfer was Jadon Sancho leaving in the summer after falling out with Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag; the English international was banished from the first team and later joined Borussia Dortmund on loan in January. Sancho performed excellently during his six-month loan at Dortmund and helped them reach the final of the Champions League.
Erik Ten Hag and Sancho appeared to have put the past behind them when he joined Manchester United for preseason, but he began to be the subject of transfer speculations when he was not included in the Manchester United squad for their games against Fulham and Brighton.
Jadon Sancho joined Chelsea on an initial loan with an option to buy next summer.
However, Manchester United Sporting director Dan Ashworth has revealed that all the high-profile players sold intended to move and start a new adventure.
He added that Manchester United had enough options on the wings with Sancho, and it was only prudent to let him leave.

What did Dan Ashworth say was the reason Manchester United sold Jadon Sancho?
He revealed via Skysports: “I think with any player, whether it’s Jadon, whether it’s Scott [McTominay] or whether it’s Aaron, if there’s a preference that they would like to move and go to a new club and it’s right for them and it’s right for us, then you have to explore it.
“We felt we had enough depth in that particular position to be able to cover it, we’ve got four really good wide players, Jadon was a fifth, and it just enabled us to make that decision.
“If it was good for him and good for us it was something we were willing to consider.”
Dan Ashworth also denied claims that Jadon Sancho was kicked out of the team following a row with Erik Ten Hag.
He added: “‘Nothing to do with that. It was a decision that we made – if it’s right for Jadon and it’s right for us to move on. He wanted to explore the opportunity at Chelsea like Scott wanted to explore the opportunity at Napoli like Aaron wanted to explore the opportunity at West Ham.
“‘We’re not in a position where we’re kicking players out of the club.”‘
