The Sun reports that Manchester United have been offered the chance to acquire Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos after dropping their interest in Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.
Ramos had an outstanding season with Benfica, scoring 27 goals in all competitions. However, according to the report, the club will not transfer their 21-year-old star for less than £80 million. Ramos is under contract with Benfica until 2026, so the Portuguese powerhouses are under no financial obligation to let him leave.
Erik ten Hag was eager to bring Harry Kane to Old Trafford, as the England captain has just one year remaining on his contract. However, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is demanding a £100 million transfer fee for the 29-year-old, which has cooled United’s interest.
Kane could still depart North London, as several European clubs are in the market for a forward this summer. The report reveals that Jorge Mendes, Ramos’ agent, believes a potential Kane departure will spark a bidding war between Manchester United and Tottenham for the Portuguese forward’s signature.
United appear unwilling to be dragged into overspending on a forward this summer, as they have also turned away from Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
