The guy was seen on CCTV going into the Orlando, Florida hotel.
According to authorities, a guy posing as a badge broke into a woman’s Orlando, Florida hotel room and robbed her at gunpoint.
Authorities were summoned to a hotel on August 23 along a major area of the Sunshine State that is home to several holiday resorts, according to a release from the Orlando Police Department.
An unidentified male with a “badge” around his neck forced access into the woman’s room and pretended to be a police officer, the woman reported to the authorities. Police were informed by the victim that the man had handcuffed her and taken her money, all the while flashing what seemed to be a weapon from his belt.
Hotel security footage, which included a close-up of the suspect’s fictitious badge and his arrival on the floor, supported the woman’s claim.
Police identified the offender as 27-year-old Michael Darren Jesse Rodriguez based on the CCTV footage.
Rodriguez, 27, is reported to have pulled out similar robberies at Days Inns in Miami Springs and Lantana, Florida, prior to this, according to the authorities.
Rodriguez was captured by the Gwinnett County Police Department in Georgia on September 8, 2024, while operating the identical car that was involved in the events in Orlando and Lantana.
When Orlando detectives went to Georgia to check the suspect’s cars, they found handcuffs, a forged police badge, and more evidence connected to the two crimes.
Rodriguez was taken into custody on October 2 after Orlando police acquired an arrest warrant for him.
Rodriguez faced charges of robbery with a firearm, false imprisonment with a weapon, and false officer impersonation to conduct a felony.
Any other victims of Rodriguez are asked by Orlando police to get in touch with the authorities by calling 800-423-TIPS (8477).
