With appearances and roles on numerous television shows and films, he got his most successful role as Theo Huxtable, the only son of Heathcliff Huxtable, whom Bill Cosby played from 1984 to 1992 on the NBC sitcom The Cosby Show. Warner auditioned for the position on the final day of the nationwide search, and Cosby chose him.
During his stint on The Cosby Show, Warner directed music videos for rapper Special Ed’s “I’m the Magnificent” (1989), “I Love You For Sentimental Reasons” (1994), and New Edition’s “N.E. Heart Break” (1989). He has directed episodes of The Cosby Show, All That, Kenan & Kel, and Malcolm & Eddie, among others. In addition, Warner directed Time Out: The Truth About HIV, AIDS, and You (1992), a teen-oriented public health video that featured Arsenio Hall and Earvin “Magic” Johnson discussing the reality of HIV and AIDS and the best strategies to avoid their spread.
