Former Manchester United midfielder believes Cristiano Ronaldo’s time at Manchester United is over and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner should move on.
The 37-year-old was named Manchester United player of the year after scoring 24 goals in 39 appearances for the Red Devils last season.
Ronaldo was offered to the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Napoli and a sensational return to Real Madrid but none of the clubs were interested in the Portuguese Super Star.
There were reports on Monday that Erik Ten Hag has sanctioned Cristiano Ronaldo’s move from the club and is willing to listen to offers from other clubs.
The Red Devils are now interested in signing Atletico Madrid forward Matheus Cunha. Atletico Madrid wants more than £50 million for the Brazilian international.
However, Luke Chadwick claims despite it is time for Cristiano Ronaldo to leave the club, Manchester will suffer from his departure.
What did Luke Chadwick say about Cristiano Ronaldo’s future?
“You do sort of wonder if this whole situation would’ve been a bit easier if, when Ronaldo had aired views about wanting to leave, if they’d let him move on,” the former Manchester United midfielder told Caught offside
“Obviously with Anthony Martial injured after a positive pre-season, there is a worry that without Ronaldo, you can’t see where the goals are going to come from.
“I think, long-term, though it’s sad to say, I think it is time for Cristiano Ronaldo to move on. You don’t want to see a situation where he’s training on his own, eating on his own in the club canteen.
“He’s an iconic figure for what he’s done at the club and the career he’s had – he’s one of the greatest ever. You don’t want to see a fractured relationship and a toxic atmosphere.
“It seems like it’s starting to affect the dressing room, so it may be time to cut ties with him and let him go if that’s what he wants. Maybe that’ll relax a few more in the dressing room, but it’s a tough situation for the manager when the options available in that position aren’t fantastic at the moment.”
Meanwhile, Chadwick has admitted that he was shocked at Manchester United’s terrible Premier League start.
The 41-year-old said: It’s been a disastrous start to the season, not what the club wanted or what was expected.
“I think there were some really promising signs in pre-season, some fantastic performances, and nice goals, you could see a change in the way of playing. It was a bit lackluster towards the end with the games against Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano.
“The whole Ronaldo situation cast a bit of a cloud over pre-season, then he was left on the bench against Brighton. Brighton was then far and away the better team in that game, with no real attacking threat from United.
“You hoped it was a blip in that home game, but then within 35 minutes at Brentford, the team are four goals down. It’s been worse than I think anyone could’ve imagined.
“It is a really concerning time, something I don’t think anyone expected. We thought there’d be a new manager bounce, but we certainly haven’t seen that yet.”
The Red Devils will be seeking to turn their season around when they face Liverpool on Monday.
