Ambrose began her acting career in New York City in the summer and early autumn of 1990 when she appeared in the Vineyard Theatre’s off-Broadway show Soulful Scream of a Chosen Son. Her early television performances included recurring parts and a significant guest role as mentally challenged high school student Valerie Maxwell in the 1998 episode “Damaged” of the NBC police drama series Law & Order. She made her film debut as Vicky Rayburn in the comedy In & Out (1997). She subsequently received a prominent role as Denise Fleming in the high school comedy film Can’t Hardly Wait (1998).
Ambrose appears as the recurring character Myra Wringler in five episodes of the 1999 Fox teen drama Party of Five.
